Historic Old Town

Kahla is located on the former trade route from Nuremberg to Naumburg and at the foot of the Leuchtenburg, which is visible from afar. The town was first mentioned in a document in 876. Since that time it survived several fires, wars and floods. The almost completely preserved city wall with medieval buildings, city gates and towers testify to its eventful past. Since 1844 Kahla has been a porcelain town with tradition. Since the political turnaround in 1989, the image of the former agrarian town has been changing increasingly. Through construction and renovation work, streets, medieval buildings and the town wall are being restored. On some historical buildings there are information boards about the history of the buildings and their former use. A guided tour through the old town offers you a deep insight and access to the otherwise closed courtyards.
